چکیده
This file contains three sections of discussions to supplement the main text. The first section has a brief introduction to matrix and vector notation for those unfamiliar to such notation. (Use of this notation allows a concise representation of the system of differential equations used by this report.) The second section gives the full set of differential equation system for the model, and gives the values or the range of values of the parameters used. The third section argues why it is plausible that host antibodies to the immature gametocytes would reduce the overall mature gametocyte-days to a greater degree that antibodies directly against the mature gametocytes. A Note on Vector and Matrix Notation Vector and matrix notation came from linear algebra, which is concerned with solving linear systems of equations:

An integrated model of Plasmodium falciparum dynamics.
The within-host and between-host dynamics of malaria are linked in myriad ways, but most obviously by gametocytes, the parasite blood forms transmissible from human to mosquito. Gametocyte dynamics depend on those of non-transmissible blood forms, which stimulate immune responses, impeding transmission as well as within-host parasite densities. These dynamics can, in turn, influence antigenic d...

The development of molecular genetic screening techniques for avian blood parasites has revealed many novel aspects of their ecology, including greatly elevated diversity and complex host-parasite relationships. Many previous studies of malaria in birds have treated single study populations as spatially homogeneous with respect to the likelihood of transmission of malaria to hosts, and we have ...
متن کاملImmune Escape Strategies of Malaria Parasites
Malaria is one of the most life-threatening infectious diseases worldwide. Immunity to malaria is slow and short-lived despite the repeated parasite exposure in endemic areas. Malaria parasites have evolved refined machinery to evade the immune system based on a range of genetic changes that include allelic variation, biomolecular exposure of proteins, and intracellular replication. All of thes...
متن کاملRandom, top-down, or bottom-up coexistence of parasites: malaria population dynamics in multi-parasitic settings.
Epidemiological models concerned with the control of malaria using interventions such as bed nets and vaccines increasingly incorporate realistic aspects of malaria biology. The increasing complexity of these models limits their ability to abstract ecological processes and to address questions on the regulation of population dynamics using time-series data, particularly in regards to interactio...
